Felix Mutua

Senior Programmes Management and Strategic Planning Consultant

Felix is a seasoned programmes management, strategic planning and organizational development consultant with 30 years of experience in design and management of cross-sectorial development programmes. He previously worked as a senior programmes manager with several non-profit organizations in East Africa, and has been a full-time independent consultant for the last 11 years.

Mr. Mutua had earlier held senior programme management positions with the Aga Khan Foundation (East Africa), Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF), Trocaire (East Africa Regional Office), the Kenya Red Cross Society and Undugu Society of Kenya. He has a sound track record in conducting organizational capacity assessments and organisational strengthening of principally development organisations. He has long-running experience in coaching, mentoring and leading diverse programme teams. This is in addition to sterling work he has undertaken in managing grants and budgets; programme design; resource mobilization; and training diverse civil society leaders in leadership, integrity, governance; and strategic planning processes. He possesses strong analytical, communication, facilitation, and problem solving and diversity management skills. He enjoys a collaborative management style, while also being able to work well on his own.

He has successfully delivered various consultancy assignments for a wide array of non-for-profit clients including, among others: the East African Community (EAC Secretariat), Trócaire, Poverty Eradication Network, Forestry Society of Kenya through the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), Intergovernmental Authority on Drought and Development (IGAD), Arid Lands Information Network, Finn Church Aid, and Danish Church Aid. He has executed technical assignments for several Government of Kenya ministries and departments and agencies (MDAs) on World Bank-funded projects. He has played these high-level roles as the Lead Consultant Sociologist, under the auspices of two firms namely Apex Porter Novelli (APN), a leading strategic communication agency and Regional Development Consultants (RDC). He has also served as an external (adjunct) consultant for the Kenya School of Government (Baringo Campus).

Felix holds a Masters of Arts degree in Sociology and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology (Hons) from Kenyatta University. Over the years, he has also had occasion to attend and actively participate in numerous high-level short courses and learning visits locally and internationally, further honing his professional skills and gaining valuable global exposure.
